STL to SVG
Pick a height, and we cut the model there and give you the outline as an SVG at true size. Handy for laser cutting, CNC and making templates.

Good to know
What it's good for
- Laser cutting a flat part that matches a 3D one, like a lid or a gasket.
- Making a paper or vinyl template from a printed part.
- Getting a clean outline of a sign or logo you only have as an STL.
Getting the size right in other apps
The SVG says its width and height in millimetres, so Inkscape and LightBurn open it at true size.
Some apps assume 96 pixels per inch and ignore the unit. If the outline comes in the wrong size, check that the app reads SVG units in mm.
How it works
- 1Drop an STL (or 3MF, OBJ).
- 2Slide to the height you want to cut at. The outline updates as you go.
- 3Download the SVG. It's sized in mm, so it imports at the right scale.
Questions people ask
Checked October 2026
- Do my files get uploaded?
- No. Everything runs in your browser. The file never leaves your computer, so it works for client files and unreleased designs too.
- Will it trace the whole model's silhouette?
- It gives you the cross-section at one height, not the shadow of the whole thing. For a flat part like a bracket or a sign, that's the same thing.
- Why is my outline broken into pieces?
- The model probably has holes right at that height. Try a slightly different height, or run it through the STL repair tool first.
