STL to OBJ converter
Bring a printable STL into Blender, a game engine or a renderer as an OBJ. Vertices are shared, so it's lighter and smooths properly.

When you'd want an OBJ
- Rendering a print idea in Blender, KeyShot or a game engine before you print it.
- Sculpting on top of a printable model in an app that prefers OBJ.
- Sending a model to someone whose tool doesn't open STL.
Bringing it into Blender
Blender reads 1 unit as 1 metre. Our OBJ keeps the STL's numbers, which are millimetres, so a 50 mm part arrives 50 m tall.
Fix it after import by scaling by 0.001, or set Scene → Units → Unit Scale to 0.001 before you import.
Why OBJ is lighter
An STL repeats every corner for every triangle that touches it. An OBJ stores each corner once and points to it. That's why the OBJ is often much smaller and shades smoothly in renderers.
How it works
- 1Drop your STL in the box.
- 2Turn on "Make Y up" if it's going into Blender, Unity or another Y-up app.
- 3Click Download OBJ.
Questions people ask
Checked October 2026
- Do my files get uploaded?
- No. Everything runs in your browser. The file never leaves your computer, so it works for client files and unreleased designs too.
- Which way is up in the OBJ?
- We keep the STL's Z-up by default. Turn on "Make Y up" if you're bringing it into a Y-up app and it shows up lying down.
