DAE file viewer
Got a .dae from SketchUp, Blender or an asset pack? Drop it here to see it, colours and all. We read the file's own unit, so the size is right.

What is a DAE file?
DAE stands for Digital Asset Exchange. It's the file extension for Collada, an open 3D format kept by the Khronos Group, the same people behind glTF.
A DAE is plain XML text. It can hold meshes, materials, colours, cameras, lights, bones and animation. Textures are separate image files that the DAE points to.
Where DAE files come from
- SketchUp: the desktop app exports Collada, and many 3D Warehouse models download as DAE or as a zip with a DAE inside.
- Blender: File → Export → Collada (.dae). Recent versions mark it as legacy, so for new work glTF or OBJ is the safer pick.
- Game and VR asset packs, Google Earth models (KMZ files are zipped DAEs), and older robot and simulation tools like ROS.
If the DAE looks wrong
- It's white or one colour: the textures are image files next to the DAE, and the browser can't reach them. The base colours still show.
- It's lying on its side: the file says which axis is up, and we follow it. If the exporter wrote the wrong one, rotate it in the STL editor.
- It's huge or tiny: the file says its own unit (metres, inches, mm). SketchUp models are often in inches. Set the real size in the STL editor.
- It's a zip or KMZ: unzip it first and drop the .dae from inside.
How it works
- 1Drop a .dae file from SketchUp, Blender or a game asset pack.
- 2Drag to spin it. Scroll or pinch to zoom. Right-drag to pan.
- 3Read the size, triangle count and whether it's watertight in the panel.
Questions people ask
Checked October 2026
- Do my files get uploaded?
- No. Everything runs in your browser. The file never leaves your computer, so it works for client files and unreleased designs too.
- What is a DAE file?
- DAE is Collada, an open 3D format written as XML. It holds meshes, colours, materials and sometimes animation. SketchUp, Blender and many game tools read and write it.
- Why are the textures missing?
- A DAE points to image files that sit next to it on your disk, and a web page can't reach those. You see each part in its base colour. The shape and size are all there.
- Can I 3D print a DAE?
- Yes, once it's an STL. Open the DAE in our STL editor or STL repair tool and save it as STL. Both read DAE directly.
